Things to Do in Las Vegas With Friends

Discover all the fun and exciting things to do in Las Vegas. Grab your friends and have an awesome Sin City experience for your much-needed break from the ordinary.

The number of hotel choices in Las Vegas can be overwhelming. The best thing to do is choose one that offers the best deals. One of the most notable hotels in the city is Wynn Las Vegas. Room rates can be pricey, but not on weekdays. Book a 640 square foot-standard room at Wynn Las Vegas and enjoy all the luxurious amenities the hotel offers at an affordable price.

The first thing you should do in Las Vegas is to head to Stratosphere Tower, the tallest free-standing observation deck in the United States. At the top, you get to have a spectacular view of the entire Las Vegas Boulevard, popularly known as the Las Vegas Strip, glowing with all the colorful lights of the hotels and other surrounding establishments, the suburban communities, and even Mt. Charleston from a distance.

Liberace Museum is one of the most frequented attractions in Nevada and is often included in every visitor’s “things to do in Las Vegas” list. Visit the Liberace Museum and pay tribute to the man that helped put Las Vegas in the map. The museum is home to the world’s largest rhinestone along with Liberace’s collection of pianos, cars, costumes and more.

Gambling is undoubtedly the most popular of all things to do in Las Vegas. If you do not gamble or have no idea how these games of chance are played, Las Vegas Hilton holds gambling classes (also called gaming classes) for everyone who wants to learn the mechanisms of poker, baccarat and all the other table games. Be sure to check on the schedule and rates for these classes. More often than not, though, the gambling classes are free!

Las Vegas offers world-class shopping experience to both its residents and visitors. Check out the Forum Shops located in one of the buildings of Caesars Palace Hotel Casino. Upscale shops such as Jimmy Choo, Gucci and Versace all in an infrastructure reminiscent of ancient Roman architecture will surely entice people to make shopping one of the things to do in their Las Vegas itinerary. All the shopping will most certainly make you and your friends all worked up. Pamper yourselves with a foot or full body massage at The Spa in the Treasure Island. The amiable staff alone will make you feel relaxed. Other services offered are facials and body treatments, to name a few.

Las Vegas is a dining mecca. Whether you are looking for the all-American cuisine or you want to try something new, Las Vegas has a place for you. Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House at the MGM Grand, is a must-try. Reservations are not necessary, but highly-recommended. After the very filling meal at Emeril’s, go to Coyote Cafe for desserts, which is also located in the same hotel.

One thing you and your friends should definitely experience in Las Vegas is its incomparable nightlife. Dress up and hit the dance floor at Tao located in the Venetian Hotel. Chances are, you might be drinking, dancing and rubbing elbows with Hollywood’s party people.

This Las Vegas experience will make you realize why the city is coined the Entertainment Capital of the World. From morning to very late night, you will certainly find your hands full of all the interesting things to do in Las Vegas.

Depending on how long you plan to stay, here is what my wife and I usually do. We normally go for 7 days at a time. We plan to see one top of the line shows, Eat one dinner at a posh restaurant, take one side trip and spend the rest of the time exploring all there is to see and do on the Strip.

From Mandalay Bay at the Southern end of the Strip to the Stratosphere on the Northern end there are at least 22 hotels worth seeing. Each is huge and filled with casinos, things to see, theaters, restaurants and shopping.

For instance there is the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, the Eiffel Tower at Paris, the super scary rides atop the Stratosphere and the roller coasters and the ESPN Zone at New York-New York and the Sahara. There is an antique car display with something like 100 very rare cars in the Imperial Palace, the gallery of fine art at the Wynn, Madame Tussaud's interactive wax museum at the Venetian, another art gallery at Bellagio, the huge aquarium and the secret gardens at the Mirage, the a garden and wildlife habitat at the Flamingo just to name a few.

I strongly recommend you purchase your tickets for any of the big shows before you go to Las Vegas. They are nearly impossible to get once there. The antique car display at the IP charges an admission but if you look around in magazines in your room or flyers on every counter in most places you can usually find free passes.

There are a load of web sites that provide discount coupons for a fee. Check them out as well. In fact, I just took a quick look and found a site where you can print out a coupon for free admission to the Imperial Palace antique cars. It is as easy as that.

You may also want to look for sites that have PROMO codes for hotels. They are a great way to save on your accomodations.

When you go to Las Vegas these usual things you will want to see for FREE:

    1. Number one on my list is to watch the fountains displays in front of the Bellagio hotel. It usually runs every 15 minutes in summers starting at 3:00 PM; runs continuously until about midnight. Each show is different (there are more than 20 different tunes choreographed) so stay and watch at least 2 or 3. ALSO, go inside the Bellagio hotel to its lobby and view the beautiful glass sculptured ceiling AND the seasonal floral arrangements in the Atrium. ( http://www.bellagio.com/amenities/founta... )

    2. The “Sirens of TI” show (spectacular) in from of the Treasure Island Hotel; it runs every 90 minutes starting at about 4:30 PM. Simply stand on the sidewalk in front of the TI Hotel. http://www.treasureisland.com/pages/ent_...

    3. The volcano erupt in from of the Mirage Hotel; starting at dark until midnight. Again, just stand on the sidewalk in front of the hotel.

    4. Go down to Fremont Street and see the light shows. There are usually 3 or 4 different shows, starting after dark (about 8:30PM) and lasting about 5 or 10 minutes each.

    5. Go to the RIO hotel to see the Masquerade in the Sky show. It is like Mardi Gras parade, only suspended from the ceiling over the gambling floor. It runs every 60 minutes starting about 3:00 PM; the last show starts at 9:30 PM..
    http://www.harrahs.com/casinos/rio/casin...

    6. Go in Caesars Palace and walk through the Forum shops to the first fountain (its spectacular) then take the first fork to the left to go see the aquarium. Then continue on through the shops to the second fountain and wait for the show to start.

If you are a Star Trek Fan, go to the Hilton (off the strip) for "Star Trek The Experience"; it cost about $35.
    http://www.startrekexp.com/

MOVIES: There are movie theaters in the Palms (multiplex) which is just off the Strip on Flamingo Road (across from the Rio Hotel) and also another on the Strip across the street from the Monte Carlo hotel, near the MGM hotel. Then there are more movie theaters off the strip in the Orleans Hotel/Casino, in the Red Rock Canyon Hotel/Casino and the Green Valley Ranch Hotel/Casino.

BOWLING: If you like to bowl, there are alley's in The Gold Coast Hotel/Casino (beside the RIO) and in the Orleans Hotel Casino. .

ACT LIKE A KID: If you like roller coasters, there are roller coaster rides at the NY, NY hotel/casino, at the Sahara Hotel/Casino, and, for those with a strong heart, three rides at the top of the Stratosphere Tower. The Circus Circus Hotel/casino has arcades and an indoor amusement park. There is a place called Game Works below the Coke World experience that has all type video games. In addition, many hotels have an arcade area.

If you have access to a car:

RED ROCK CANYON: Its about 20 miles west of Las Vegas out Charleston Blvd (you can pick up that street at the north end of the Strip) It’s a scenic drive-through park. Go early, not in the heat of the day; there's no shade.

HOOVER DAM: Drive about 30 miles southeast of Vegas and go to Hoover Dam; the National Park Service offers tours there (@ $12.) and its interesting stuff. Go on past Hoover dam to Boulder City and then to Lake Meade for a swim and/or to visit the new casino there. Also, there are tour companies that will take you on a cruise of the river below Hoover Dam. Check the Vegas web sites.

VALLEY OF FIRE STATE PARK: Drive about 35 miles north of Vegas on I-15 and go to Valley of Fire State Park, another scenic park area.

ZION NATION PARK: It’s a long drive (about 2-3 hours), but you can drive North on I-15 to Zion National Park and back in one day.

There are also a couple of motion rides and midway games at Excalibur

Something a little different would be a trip out to the SPrings Preserve. Its the site of the original settlement of Vegas and has some cool exhibits and attractions. Probably not a "woo-hoo" kind of place but may be fun depending on what you are into.

I am originally from detroit, and am a professional in my early thirties. I consider myself to be well rounded- I am educated, and career focused, but I consider myself hip, trendy, and very urban. I like to hang out, have a good time.

My experience in vegas (for one year now) has been mixed at best. I am not sure what you and your boyfriend do for a living- if you will be working in the entertainment industry in any form (service, performance, etc.) it can be a lot of fun here. Income tends to be well above average for these types of jobs here, and the city's young professional crowd is typically in a service based industry. But be wary- if you are coming here to "find" industry based jobs, be ready to jump through hoops, and also be disappointed. This is largely bc (and I'm not saying this to be a jerk) if you aren't hot, you won't get one of these jobs. It's just the way it goes here. They hire all big breasted super hot girls in every entertainment or serviced based job here. It's just reality. It is especially a disaster for guys- I know many people here with tons of entertainment experience, and they got passed over for girls who had zero experience and some could hardly speak english!

If you are professionals (teachers, lawyers, nurses whatever) i can attest that this is a strange place to live. The gaming and entertianment industry throws everything off- it's so focused on casinos out here. I have met many people here that I have hung out with, but many are in entertainment. They live a much different lifestyle than me; I find it harder and harder to find quatlity relationships bc of this. I'm not saying i'm better than them, it's just different. Sometimes I just want to be around simpler people, and hang out somewhere that the majority of people are like me- similar lifestyle, similar tastes, similar background. It really is hard in this city to find that.

If you both are into a the party scene, and want to be around nightlife, and really think the strip life is what you want, you could have fun here. Especially if you know quality people her already, that could give you a sense of familiarity right away. There is undeniably great nightlife here- impeccable restaraunts, shows, and some of the best clubs in the world. It is certainly much cheaper than OC, but I would consider my life to be much richer if I lived there, rather than here. Don't forget, outside of the strip, Vegas is really just a fairly boring, big desert suburb. Frankly, the best amenity in this city is it's accesibility to hiking and the Lake, at least that's how I feel after living here a year. Compared to OC, there is so much less culture here, and certainly a hell of a lot less to do here (aside from night life). If you are looking for more of a balanced lifestyle, you might want to consider Phoenix. It is a much better similance of a normal urban setting.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

There are lots teenagers can do on and off the Vegas strip. Here are some of them. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/entertain-kids.php

You also need to be aware of the Vegas curfew and to make sure you are off the streets before the curfew starts.

Since you are 19 you'll have trouble getting into the cool clubs on the strip. They ID everyone there. I went at 19 and found it very limiting. You can go see comedy shows, concerts, and go ride the rides at the Stratosphere. There are lots of guys on the street that will hand you flyers for prostitutes and strippers. You could probably find a prostitute out there since a neighboring county allows it.

Wait until your 21. I went again at 22 and had a blast. I recommend Club Rain at the Palms and Club Jet at the Mirage. Had a great time clubbing and drinking tequila at the Pink Taco in the Hard Rock Cafe. You can also relax at the pools and drink cocktails all day before going out again at night.
